Being a school library media specialist has taught me many things. One of the biggest is the continuous need to inspire a larger love of reading in the lives of my students who come through the library every year. It is awesome seeing a student fall in love with reading...or at least hate it a little less! In fact, I consider nurturing readers and promoting lifelong learning two of my most important duties as a library media specialist.
The ability to read continues to be an important skill for students in the 21st century since the amount of information for students to filter through continues to grow. Being able to sift through this information, in a critical and comprehensive manner, is as important now as it was 100 years ago. ~Leah Greer, Tison Library Media Specialist |
About the reading challenge |
This year, Tison students are challenged to not only read a variety of literature, but to also model the idea that learning takes place anytime and anywhere...not just within the confines of a classroom. Tison students taking up this challenge must not only read books but also complete tasks that mirror behaviors of lifelong learners. The challenge officially begins September 1, 2016 and officially ends May 1, 2017. Throughout the challenge, the library will offer incentives to keep students motivated at midpoints in the challenge. At the end of the school year, the library will host the "Tison Book Challenge Bash" to celebrate those students who completed the challenge!
For further details on the challenge, please visit the Challenge Details or Challenge FAQs page. Students must also complete the TMS 2016-17 Reading Challenge Honor Pledge before starting the challenge. |
